Uzbekistan and OIC: Cooperation for peace, enlightenment and progress

2019-10-07

On October 7-8, Tashkent will host the 6th International Seminar of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission on “Importance of promoting and protecting the rights of youth for building peaceful and democratic societies and sustainable development”.

The main organizer of the international forum, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), was founded on September 25, 1969 during the first meeting of the heads of Muslim states in Rabat, Morocco.

At the beginning, the largest international Islamic organization was called the Organization of the Islamic Conference. In 2011, it was renamed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The headquarters of the organization is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Today, almost a third of the world’s population lives in OIC member countries. This multifaceted cooperation plays an important role in achieving such noble goals as preservation and enrichment of sacred Islamic values, strengthening harmony between Muslim people, ensuring sustainable development, promoting the development and wellbeing of member countries.
