Active members of civil society voting

2016-12-04 | Elections

It is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan that the state ensures the observance of the rights and legitimate interests of public associations and creates equal conditions for them to participate in public life. More than 250 bylaws adopted in line with this principle serve as a legal basis for the development of civil society in Uzbekistan.

Norm-setting regulatory acts adopted in the country in recent years simplify the procedure for the registration of nongovernmental non-commercial organizations and their work even more. The legal and organizational bases for the work of citizens’ self-governing bodies have been improved. As a result, there are about 8700 nongovernmental non-commercial organizations functioning in the country.

About 10 thousand citizens’ self-governing bodies are making a big contribution to the development and implementation of democratic reforms in the regions. Active members of neighbourhoods fruitfully work in the sphere of working with young people and women, their job placement and support for those in need of help. Representatives of the mahalla (neighbourhood) institution are not only helping to hold today’s elections at a high level but also actively taking part in voting.

“The effectiveness of our country’s model of development can be seen in our people’s rising living standards and quality of life. The development of our country’s economy is a vivid confirmation of this. I vote for the further development of the process of creation and progress. With such good thoughts, inhabitants of our neighbourhood are voting at polling station No 413 that is open from the early hours of the morning,” says the chairman of the “Parvoz” neighbourhood citizens’ gathering in Yashnaobod district of the capital city, Anvar Chulliyev.
