The President of Uzbekistan receives the head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission

Issues of preparing and holding a referendum on introducing amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan were considered at a meeting of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission Albert Jónsson, on April 20.
The President of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction the fruitful contacts, the established open and constructive dialogue with the OSCE.
It should be noted that the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov visited Uzbekistan last year.
The experts participated in the modernization of the national electoral system, including the development of the Electoral Code of Uzbekistan.
Recommendations based on the results of full-scale ODIHR missions at the nationwide elections in Uzbekistan in 2016, 2019 and 2021 were taken into account and implemented.
At the meeting, views were exchanged on various aspects of the organization of the referendum in accordance with high international standards.
The Head of the mission, Albert Jónsson, expressed support for the process of further deepening democratic reforms in New Uzbekistan, which are reflected in the renewed Constitution of the country.
