On July 2, 2020, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov held talks with OIC Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Ssenyomo, via videoconference.
The state and prospects of increasing the multifaceted cooperation of Uzbekistan with OIC, including in trade-economic, investment and tourism spheres, were discussed during the conversation.
It was noted that increasing cooperation in economy and trade is one of the priority areas of relations with OIC. In this regard, Uzbekistan intends to establish close cooperation with OIC Secretary General, IDB, COMCEC, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade and other institutions of the Organization, which will make it possible to successfully implement projects in Uzbekistan.
According to Uzbekistan MFA, the parties also discussed the resumption of trade-economic cooperation between OIC members in the context of COVID-19 pandemic and noted the importance of joint efforts to mitigate the negative effects of coronavirus.
OIC Assistant Secretary General highly appreciated measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to maintain economic activity, support entrepreneurship and combat the spread of coronavirus infection in the country.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the talks.
