Heads of the CIS border agencies meet in Samarkand

The fifth regional meeting of the heads of border agencies of the CIS member states was attended by delegations of five border agencies of the Commonwealth: Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops (CCBT).
The situation on the external borders of the CIS member states with Afghanistan, as well as its development trends for the near future, were analyzed. In particular, views were exchanged on the situation in the northern border regions of Afghanistan.
At the same time, attention of participants was focused on increasing the scale of drug production, which is under the control of militants, and attempts of moving drugs across the external borders of the CIS member states in the Central Asian region and further along the so-called “northern route”.
Specialists worked out measures to counter the penetration into the territory of the Commonwealth states of persons involved in international terrorist and extremist organizations.
Following the meeting, a Protocol was signed, the recommendations of which will be considered at the next meeting of CCBT on April 16, 2020, in Yerevan.
