Uzbekistan – UN: Common Goals

2020-03-02 | Politics

On the occasion of the 28th Anniversary of Uzbekistan's admission to the United Nations, a roundtable discussion was held in Tashkent, organized by the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations jointly with the National University of Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by deputies of the Lower House of Parliament, heads of permanent mission and special structures of the United Nations in Uzbekistan, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, research scientists and students.

Important stages and priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations, which was established on March 2, 1991, were discussed at the event.

It was noted that main areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN are ensuring peace and security, strengthening interstate friendship and good-neighborly relations, expanding international economic, cultural and socio-humanitarian ties, supporting and developing human rights and freedoms.

It was emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan has become one of the most active countries in the UN ranks. It was noted that the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, voiced at the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly, are important both at the regional and global level.

Appropriate recommendations were developed based on the discussed issues and expressed opinions.
