2019-12-26 | Politics

On December 25, 2019, Moscow hosted Uzbekistan – Russia inter-MFA political consultations.

Uzbekistan delegation was led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilkhom Nematov. The Russian Federation was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Rudenko.

The parties thoroughly discussed the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, scientific, educational, cultural-humanitarian and other fields.

The course of implementation of the agreements reached within the framework of state visits of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia in April 2017 and President Vladimir Putin to Uzbekistan in October 2018 was considered. The parties control the implementation of bilateral documents in trade, economic and investment fields for 2019-2024 for a total amount of 25 billion USD.

As it was emphasized, the priority area in strengthening strategic partnership is expansion of mutually beneficial trade-economic cooperation. Over the past two years, its volume has grown 1.5 times. In January-November this year, the trade turnover amounted to 5.8 billion USD, which is 14.1% higher than the same period last year. Since the beginning of the year, 130 mutual visits of various delegations have been organized.

In this context, great importance is attached to development of cooperation between the regions of the two countries. The regions of Uzbekistan have established productive relations with 70 entities of Russia.

During the consultations, the parties exchanged views on the organizational aspects of the upcoming bilateral events in Tashkent in 2020, including meetings of the Joint Commission at the level of heads of government, the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Other relevant issues of Uzbekistan – Russia agenda were also discussed at the meeting.
