On December 17, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev departed for Japan on an official visit.

During the visit, talks are due with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, President of the House of Councilors of the National Diet (Japanese parliament) Akiko Santo, Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house) of the Diet Tadamori Oshima, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Taro Aso. The parties are expected to discuss priority areas for development of Uzbekistan – Japan relations, including for the long term, exchange views on pressing international issues.

The President of Uzbekistan will be received by the Emperor of Japan Naruhito.

The program of the visit includes meetings with the President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Shinichi Kitaoka, as well as heads of leading industrial and financial institutions. It is planned to substantively consider the issues of further developing cooperation between the business communities of the two countries, participation of Japanese companies in implementation of major investment projects in Uzbekistan on a mutually beneficial basis.

The President of Uzbekistan will also visit one of the most important economic centers of the country, the city of Nagoya – where meetings are envisaged with Aichi prefecture Governor Hideaki Omura, the Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura, the Nagoya University President Seiichi Matsuo – to discuss prospects of establishing partnership among cities and education institutions.

Following the official visit, it is envisaged to adopt a Joint Statement on further enhancement of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan, sign bilateral documents aimed at strengthening the legal framework for cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, customs, tourism, scientific-technical interaction and other areas.
