Uzbekistan delegation holds meetings in Washington

2019-10-02 | Politics

Delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks in Washington, DC.

A meeting took place with the newly appointed United States Deputy National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger, who asked to convey appreciation to the Uzbek leadership for the continued support of his country’s efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.

It was emphasized that Washington sees Uzbekistan as a reliable and key partner in implementing President Donald Trump’s strategy in South Asia, including the active involvement of Afghanistan in the regional trade-economic and infrastructure process in Central Asia.

Negotiations were also held with Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council Lisa Curtis.

The parties noted with satisfaction the productive results of the C5+1 ministerial meeting held on September 22 in New York, which again confirmed the relevance of this format of interaction.

Lisa Curtis noted the active position of Uzbekistan in developing regional cooperation and strengthening the atmosphere of trust in Central Asia. She welcomed the efforts of Uzbekistan to return women and children from zones of armed conflict in the Middle East and expressed readiness to provide necessary assistance on this issue.

At the meeting, other issues on bilateral agenda were also discussed, including further development of political dialogue, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian ties.
