A meeting between the Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov and Deputy Director General and Head of the Nuclear Energy Department of the IAEA, Mikhail Chudakov, was held at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It was noted that Uzbekistan, which is now among the countries using peaceful nuclear energy, attaches great importance to training highly qualified personnel. A branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) in Tashkent has been organized and begins its activities. The first students have already been selected. In addition, 57 students from Uzbekistan receive education directly at MEPhI in Russia. In 2019/2020 academic year, the quotas for studying at the MEPhI magistracy has been doubled for Uzbekistan students, reaching 30 places.
Great importance is attached not only to training highly qualified personnel, but also to a wide acquaintance of the population, in particular children and youth, with modern use of peaceful atom, and a high degree of security of the sphere’s technologies. In Uzbekistan, there is a clear understanding that safety is a priority within the framework of implementation of the project for construction of nuclear power plants. Therefore, international experience and standards in this field are actively being studied, including the experience of IAEA specialists.
Within the framework of cooperation, workshops and other events with participation of IAEA experts have been planned and are being implemented.
