National Press Center of Tashkent hosted a press conference with participation of representatives of local and foreign mass media on activities of Public Diplomacy Center of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Uzbekistan.
The initiative to create SCO Public Diplomacy Centers was first forwarded by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the SCO summit, which was held in 2017 in the city of Nur-Sultan. The first such center was established in Uzbekistan and began its activities at the beginning of this year.
Activities of the SCO Public Diplomacy Center in Uzbekistan cover a wide range of areas, namely healthcare, sports, tourism, development of relations between twin cities and others. The mechanisms of public diplomacy are effectively used in cooperation with representatives of civil society and foreign countries.
The center’s specialists are working on development of cooperation with public organizations of Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and Kazakhstan. Memorandums of cooperation were signed with Development Strategy Center, Yuksalish National Movement, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, and Chinese Committee of the SCO on Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation.
The SCO unites 18 countries. In the future, the center is faced with the tasks of establishing ties, strengthening cooperation with public organizations in all these countries.
Following the press conference, suggestions were made on the issues of promoting activities of public diplomacy, using public diplomacy mechanisms in further rapprochement of the SCO countries’ people.
