Caspian Economic Forum: New stage of regional cooperation

On August 11-12 this year, the First Caspian Economic Forum “Caspian Sea: Benefits of developing international economic cooperation” was held in Avaza National Tourist Zone in the city of Turkmenbashi.

The forum was attended by delegations led by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Aripov, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation D. Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan N. Mammadov, First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran E. Jahangiri, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mamin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria B. Borisov.
 
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the opening ceremony of the forum.
 
The President of Turkmenistan noted that the Caspian Economic Forum will contribute to strengthening good neighborly relations in the region, effective implementation of projects in trade, transport, energy, tourism, popularization of economic cooperation, innovative achievements and exchange of new ideas.
 
Since ancient times, commercial activity in the Caspian Sea has been important in strengthening cooperation in trade-economic and social spheres between the states of the European and Asian continents. Currently, there is a need for creating a special platform to strengthen economic ties between the Caspian and neighboring countries, stimulate investment policy and enhance mutual dialogue between businesspeople. The Caspian Economic Forum is one of the first steps towards implementing this important initiative.
 
Involving the transport and communication projects “Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman” and “Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan – China” will create necessary conditions for development of intercontinental transport corridor.
 
At the international forum, the possibilities of effective use and full implementation of projects in trade-economic, investment, information-communication, energy, transport and transit spheres together with the Caspian states were considered.
 
Within the framework of the forum, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov met with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
 
The President of Turkmenistan praised the participation of Uzbekistan delegation in the forum.
 
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov met with the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran E. Jahangiri, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation D. Medvedev.
 
At the meetings, views were exchanged on the issues of consistent development of bilateral cooperation.
 
Heads of delegations, accompanied by the President of Turkmenistan, visited the Caspian International Exhibition of Innovative Technologies organized within the framework of the forum and the international exhibition Turkmen Sahrasy 2019.
 
Representatives of more than 50 large companies from 21 states attended the exhibitions.
 
High technologies developed in Uzbekistan, innovative achievements in the fields of energy, automotive, oil and gas industry were demonstrated in the pavilion dedicated to the country.
 
Participants of the event noted the important role of the first Caspian Economic Forum in strengthening regional cooperation. The agreements reached following the forum were assessed as one more positive step towards supporting partnership in the spirit of mutual trust, introducing developments in various areas of production and industry.
