New facets of bilateral cooperation

2019-05-21 | Politics

On May 20, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev met with a delegation led by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Slovak Republic, in particular, on inter-parliamentary relations, as well as on cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE.

At the meeting, the guests appreciated the reforms carried out within the framework of the Action Strategy, which envisage fundamental transformations in Uzbekistan.

At present, a permanent delegation of Uzbekistan operates to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. This, in turn, allows developing cooperation in parliamentarism and lawmaking.

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, through its projects, provides technical assistance to expanding the institutional capacities of security agencies, socio-economic and environmental organizations. In 2007-2017, 150 such projects worth more than 12 million euros were implemented. Currently, 20 projects are being implemented.

Following the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to use all the possibilities for strengthening cooperation in the format of Uzbekistan – Slovakia and Uzbekistan – OSCE.
