On March 11, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Yoon Soon-gu, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the next round of inter-MFA political consultations.
According to Uzbekistan MFA, at the meeting, prospects for development of bilateral relations were discussed. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea in November 2017. Confidence was expressed that the upcoming Uzbekistan – South Korea summit will become a landmark event in development of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and people.
As the Minister emphasized, Uzbekistan highly appreciates and values close friendly relations with the Republic of Korea, based on the principles of mutual respect, trust and support.
Over the years, the Republic of Korea has consistently been among the major trading partners of Uzbekistan. In 2018, the trade turnover amounted to 2.1 billion USD, which is 54% more than the previous year. The volume of South Korean investments attracted to key sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy exceeded 5 billion dollars. Significant experience of fruitful cooperation has been accumulated in almost all areas of cooperation. A solid legal base of strategic partnership has been created.
South Korean experience is in demand in various areas of Uzbekistan’s life, such as information and communication technologies, agriculture, public administration, personnel training, medicine, education, and many others.
On the same day, the 13th round of bilateral political consultations was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which a range of issues of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, including a schedule of upcoming contacts was considered.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Kwon Yong-woo attended the negotiations.
