On Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan political consultations

2019-02-27 | Politics

On February 26, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilkhom Nematov attended Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan political consultations, in Astana.

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan was led by Deputy Minister Galymzhan Koishybayev.

The sides discussed in detail almost the entire range of issues on bilateral agenda, including cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations.

As it was noted, thanks to strong political will of Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, relations between the two countries have gained new dynamics in all spheres of cooperation. In particular, the trade turnover in 2018, according to the Uzbek side, increased by almost 50 percent and exceeded 3 billion USD. Similar trends are observed in other areas of cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the sides confirmed their mutual interest in further development of multifaceted ties in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-communication, tourism, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres on a mutually beneficial basis. New institutions of interaction, such as Forum for Interregional Cooperation, Business Council and others should play an active role in this process.

The sides also exchanged views on the Action Plan for holding the Year of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan in 2019.

During the consultations, special attention was paid to preparation for the forthcoming Second Consultative Meeting of the heads of Central Asian countries in Tashkent, which should become a logical continuation of the first meeting held on March 15, 2018, in Astana.
