Uzbekistan – Russia cooperation on hockey development in Uzbekistan

Hockey development issues in Uzbekistan were discussed at the meeting of the Executive Board Chairman – KHL President Dmitry Chernyshenko with the Chairman of Uzbekistan Hockey Federation Bakhtiyor Fazilov and his deputy Kirill Matveyev, which was held on February 19, in Moscow.

Relevance of this dialogue is due to new opportunities that Uzbekistan discovers for development and popularization of this sport. Construction of the first professional Humo Arena Ice Palace in Tashkent is at the final stage. Projects for construction of modern ice rinks in the regions of the country are also starting. These and many other initiatives, decisions made at the highest level, require, in turn, professional approaches, taking into account progressive international, including Russian, experience, where hockey today is one of the most dynamically developing sports.
 
At the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation issues between basic organizations for development of hockey in strategic partner countries. The mechanisms of interaction, possibility of holding hockey competitions with participation of Russian professionals in the arena of the new Ice Palace were considered. A preliminary agreement was reached on holding KHL away matches on the ice rink, which meets all international standards for conducting hockey competitions in Tashkent.
 
Participants of the meeting noted that dynamic process for development of one of the most popular sports in Uzbekistan, taking into account the progressive Russian experience, will allow Uzbekistan to designate its own presence on the international hockey map.
