On January 12, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the External Affairs Minister of the Republic of India Sushma Swaraj in Samarkand, who is in Uzbekistan on a working visit.
At the meeting, key issues of bilateral and regional agenda were considered.
As it was emphasized, the results of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to India on September 30 – October 1, 2018 and negotiations held with the Indian leadership confirmed the political will of the leaders of the two countries to impart new dynamics to the entire spectrum of Uzbekistan – India dialogue.
The ministers discussed practical aspects of the upcoming participation of Uzbekistan delegation in the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 and the planned summit negotiations.
Within the framework of exchanging views on bilateral events in 2019, the parties expressed interest in enhancing inter-parliamentary, inter-MFA relations, strengthening cooperation between business and financial institutions on the platform of Uzbekistan – India Business Council and the Center for Entrepreneurship Development in Tashkent city.
The ministers spoke in favor of developing cooperation in transport-communications sphere, including on launching trans-Afghan transit corridors.
The above mentioned and other regional issues are planned to be discussed at the first Ministerial Meeting of India – Central Asia Dialogue with participation of Afghanistan, in Samarkand.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the ministers expressed confidence that the new format of interaction between the Central Asian states and India will consolidate efforts on strengthening and expanding cooperation, open up new opportunities for development of each member countries.
Other issues of mutual interest were also considered at the meeting.
