Tashkent hosted a regular meeting of the Council of the U.S. – Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.
Within the framework of the event, on October 16, a meeting of the working group on standardization, sanitation, phytosanitary and intellectual property protection was organized in Hyatt Regency Tashkent hotel.
The event was held in Uzbekistan for the first time within the framework of the United States Business Week. Delegations of the Council’s member states – Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the United States and observer countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as experts and representatives of the diplomatic corps attended the meeting.
During the negotiations, views were exchanged on the issues of simplifying customs tariffs and ensuring market openness. At the same time, effective approaches to trade expansion were discussed.
Presentations were made on implementation of trade programs in Central Asia, prospects for joining the World Trade Organization.
Bilateral negotiations took place between the delegations of Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and the United States working group.
Following the meeting, a joint statement on activities of the Council’s working groups in 2018–2019 was adopted.
