Possibility of ensuring transparency in the election process will increase

The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent hosted a workshop on “Current tasks of preparation and holding elections in accordance with international standards”.
The event, organized within the framework of the joint project of the Central Election Commission and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) “Assistance in improving the electoral practice of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, was attended by responsible officials of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Central Election Commission, secretaries of election commissions at places, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, mass-media.
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gulnoza Rakhimova emphasized that full transparency and openness in the electoral process, improving skills of the electoral process subjects and voters’ electoral culture are requirement of the time.
Elections to the Oliy Majlis, regional, district and city Kengashes of people's deputies, which is scheduled for December 2019, will be held in accordance with the above mentioned new rules and practices, and the most importantly – on the basis of transparency principle.
International standards and commitments regarding elections were widely discussed at the event. In addition, trainings were held within the framework of the workshop on implementation and use of single electronic voter list.
Following the event, specific proposals for further improvement of electoral practice will be developed.
