On July 25, 2018, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, who arrived in the United States at the invitation of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to attend the Ministerial Conference on Promotion of Religious Freedom, held a special briefing on “New era of religious freedom in Uzbekistan”, at the National Press Club in Washington.
In his speeches Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev, member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Director of the National Human Rights Centre Akmal Saidov, Minister of Justice Ruslanbek Davletov noted that Uzbekistan has a centuries-old history of tolerance and respect for various religions and confessional groups in the country.
The audience was provided with detailed information about the reforms conducted under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for ensuring religious freedom and promoting the ideas of enlightened Islam. Representatives of 140 nationalities and 16 confessions live in peace and harmony in Uzbekistan, who are actively participating in political and social life of the country.
Members of Uzbekistan delegation also answered questions of journalists, experts and political scientists who attended the meeting of the National Press Club.
Representatives of the US Administration, Congress, expert-analytical and business circles, religious and other non-governmental organizations also took part at the briefing, the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
