Ceremonial event held on capital city’s Amir Temur avenue on 9 April

2017-04-10 | Society

Amir Temur is one of the Uzbek nation’s heroes of the past. After Uzbekistan achieved independence, the country’s First President Islam Karimov conducted reforms of moral revival on the basis of the restoration of the good names and honour of Uzbek people’s great ancestors and their rich heritage. As a result, the Uzbek people widely celebrate Amir Temur’s birth anniversaries, showing respect for the memory of their great ancestor.

According to a tradition, a ceremonial event took place on the capital city’s Amir Temur avenue on 9 April. Members of the parliament, representatives of ministries and departments, writers and poets, scholars, students and representatives of the wider public participated in this event.

The chairman of the Amir Temur international public charity foundation, Nozim Habibullayev; a doctor of history, Shohista Oljayeva; writer Bakhtiyor Haydarov; and others said that Amir Temur was the founder of the most powerful state in his time and a patron of science, culture, education and morality. He also exerted crucial influence over historic changes that took place in Asia and Europe then, and he made an incomparable contribution to the development of the world’s civilization. In the international arena, interest is increasing in Amir Temur’s personality and the work done by him.

More than 1,500 books have been written in Eastern and Western languages about this great personality, about the conditions in which he grew up and about how he became a statesman and invincible military leader. In nearly 50 countries of the world, scholars engaged in the study of Amir Temur are doing scientific research today.

Thanks to the country’s independence, a wide opportunity opened up to understand the Amir Temur phenomenon and to evaluate it objectively and truthfully. In this country, the year 1996 was the year of Amir Temur. His 660th birth anniversary was widely celebrated internationally. His big statues were put up in Tashkent, Samarqand and Shahrisabz. An award was established in his honour. In the year 2011, at the proposal of Islam Karimov and with his foreword, the “Temur’s code of laws” book was published anew with high printing quality.

Large-scale reforms being implemented in this country today are essentially consonant with Amir Temur’s way of thinking.

At a joint session of the chambers of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the country on 14 December 2016, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said: “Our great forefather Amir Temur’s words of profound wisdom `May justice accompany and guide us in everything we do’ should become ingrained in our everyday lives.” This is proof of the continuity of a high respect for the great ancestor.

At the event, students of the state foreign languages university read out excerpts from a poem about Amir Temur in the Uzbek and English languages. Students also displayed clothes of the era of Amir Temur and Timurids.

Flowers were laid at the Amir Temur statue.

Presidential state adviser H.Sultonov participated in the event.
