Civil society institutions developing

2017-02-22 | Society

The parliamentary commission for the management of the funds of the public foundation for supporting nongovernmental nonprofit organisations and other civil society institutions under the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan has held a scheduled gathering.

The chairman of the parliamentary commission, A.Saidov, and others have said that new mechanisms are being created for developing civil society institutions, raising their social activeness, strengthening the role of mass media and ensuring the transparency of the work of state administration bodies.

In the action strategy for five priority areas of the further development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, important tasks are specified for this sphere.

The public foundation under the parliament helps to implement more than 250 projects of civil society institutions every year. Specifically, in the year 2016 more than 12 billion soms of funds in the form of state grants and social orders were allocated on the basis of the parliamentary commission's resolutions. These funds were channelled into the financing of projects and programmes of nongovernmental nonprofit organisations, mass media and other civil society institutions.

At the gathering, the parliamentary commission announced that the holding of five contests was envisaged during the year for funds being allocated from the state budget this year to be channelled into the provision of support for projects of nongovernmental nonprofit organisations, mass media and other civil society institutions.
