Ensuring Openness and Transparency of Electoral Process

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed bilateral agreements with the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan and Information Agency "Jahon" about the coverage of the preparation and conduct of presidential elections.
The mass media plays an important role in holding of the elections in accordance with democratic principles of openness, publicity and transparency.
According to the article 5 of the Law On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Program of major activities for the preparation and conduct of elections of the President of Uzbekistan approved by the CEC, the mass media widely covers the electoral process.
Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, the CEC Chairman, stressed that the CEC and the media have gained great experience of cooperation to inform the public at all stages of preparation and conduct of elections, during the election campaigns of the past years, especially the parliamentary elections of 2014.
The signing of agreements aimed at an effective organization of work to clarify the national electoral law among the population – the relevant provisions of the Constitution, the laws "On guarantees of electoral rights of citizens", "On the Election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan", "On the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and other normative-legal acts regulating the electoral process.
In implementing the agreements signed, special attention will be paid to the creation of broad and equal opportunities for the candidates to the President of Uzbekistan in using the media for election campaigning.
The parties will cooperate in the timely provision and distribution of information on the preparation and conduct of elections through the TV and radio channels of the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, the country's leading news agencies and print media.
