On 15 October 2016, a scheduled congress of the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent.
The congress considered the issue of nominating the party’s candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the 4 December 2016 elections.
In accordance with the effective electoral legislation, political parties have the right to put forward candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In line with the legislation and the charter of the party, the highest body of the party – its congress carries out the nomination of a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The congress’s delegates confirmed the candidature of the chairman of the Central Council of the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and leader of the party’s faction in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament), Sarvar Sadullayevich Otamurodov, as a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
His candidature had been recommended at the VII plenum of the party’s Central Council.
The candidate familiarized the delegates of the congress with his pre-election programme. Delegates expressed their opinions on this programme.
It was noted at the congress that as a result of democratic reforms implemented in the country, equal rights and conditions had been guaranteed for political parties. Therefore, today’s most important task is to make complete use of the created opportunities and to ensure the party’s worthy participation in the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the basis of voters’ interests and the party’s programme goals and ideas.
The congress also discussed and specified tasks relating to arranging the candidate’s and his authorised representatives’ meetings with voters at a high level and in conformity with norms of legislation, to widely propagating the candidate’s pre-election programme during the election campaign, effectively using of air time and print space allocated by mass media for these purposes and electing observers from the party for polling stations.
During the congress, there was also discussion of other issues on its agenda, and tasks were set for leaders of the party’s regional organizations.
At the conclusion of the congress, decisions were taken on all the discussed issues.ccordance with the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party will submit documents to the Central Electoral Commission for the registration of the party’s candidate for President.
After the congress, there was a briefing for employees of mass media.
