2021-01-20 | Tourism

The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili praised the initiative of Uzbekistan to start tourism from childhood, noting that this initiative will be introduced as a separate subject in schools around the world and will create a textbook in the field. Pololikashvili made the announcement during 113th of Executive Council session of UNWTO attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov.

A. Abdukhakimov briefed the UNWTO Secretary General on the work being done today to create a culture of tourism among the population of Uzbekistan, especially among young people. “In order to encourage travelling and nurturing tourism culture among young people in Uzbekistan, a tourist map has been created and installed in secondary schools across the country.

At the same time, “Young Traveler” guides have been developed to help shape the travel culture from childhood. "Tourism Hours are being introduced in schools," he said. "Uzbekistan's experience in starting tourism development from children will encourage UNWTO to introduce a separate subject and create a textbook for primary schools around the world. I propose to test this subject in Uzbek schools for the first time in Asia," Pololikashvili said.
