Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serkan Kayalar.
At the meeting, the current epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan and Turkey, measures taken to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on the population and economies of both countries, as well as a number of relevant issues of cooperation in public administration, the development of digital technologies, agriculture, implementation of projects on preservation of cultural and historical heritage were discussed.
The Turkish side expressed gratitude for the assistance provided in eliminating the consequences of the man-made situation in Sardoba reservoir and for supporting measures to counter the pandemic in Uzbekistan.
The parties emphasized that thanks to the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkey in 2017, multifaceted cooperation between the two countries has risen to a qualitatively new level. In particular, over the past three years, with the assistance of the Agency, 147 projects worth $26 million have been implemented, while in general, since the establishment of partnership with TIKA, 800 projects worth $52.4 million have been implemented in healthcare, agriculture, development of small and medium-sized business, modernization of educational institutions.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to create a joint working group, the tasks of which will include the formation of a cooperation program for 2021-2023 and development of proposals for accelerated implementation of projects within the framework of the discussed cooperation areas.
