Uzbekistan’s Deputy FM attends OSCE conference on the fight against corruption in the digital era

On July 6, 2020, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov took part in a high-level conference: “Good governance and the fight against corruption in the digital era: Strengthening the principles of transparency, integrity and accountability”, organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), via videoconference.

The event was attended by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, the OSCE Secretary General, Thomas Greminger, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Ghada Fathi Waly, representatives of OSCE participating states and international structures.
 
Views were exchanged on the issues of strengthening the accountability of state structures, increasing the role of digital technologies, innovations, the media and civil society in the fight against corruption.
 
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan informed the conference participants about the ongoing large-scale reforms in the country aimed at preventing corruption.
 
Sherzod Asadov emphasized that in Uzbekistan the fight against corruption has been elevated to the rank of state policy. The country’s leadership pays special attention to improving the organizational and legal mechanisms, strengthening the legal culture of the population, increasing the role of the media and civil society in the fight against corruption.
 
In this regard, the Anti-Corruption Agency has recently been created, which is a specially authorized body for development and implementation of state policy in this area.
