On July 2, 2020, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan Mehmet Süreyya Er, Uzbekistan MFA reports.
Issues of regional security, in particular the current situation on Afghanistan, were discussed during the conversation.
The importance of launching the peace negotiation process, as well as the role of Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan, the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process Forum and others were noted to resolve the Afghan problem and restore IRA’s socio-economic infrastructure in the interests of the entire Afghan people.
The Turkish side was informed about measures taken by Uzbekistan to facilitate the launching of a peaceful political process, as well as transport-communication projects implemented in IRA.
The sides also discussed the issue of cooperation to support Afghanistan in the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
An agreement was reached to continue close bilateral cooperation on Afghanistan, in particular in the search for optimal ways to resolve the crisis in that country peacefully.
