Within the framework of implementation of previously adopted resolutions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on modernization of the current biometric passport system, the resolution of the President was adopted on March 6, 2020 “On measures for implementing registration and issuance system of identification ID cards in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
As it was noted, starting from January 1, 2021, all newborns, citizens of Uzbekistan, stateless persons and foreign citizens permanently residing in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be issued ID cards as a document certifying the identity and citizenship of its owner for 10 years instead of a biometric passport.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, ID cards will be valid only on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
ID cards will be issued without any additional burden for population of the country from January 1, 2021 to January 1, 2030.
Transition to the ID card issuance system is based on the experience of developed foreign countries and will speed up the implementation of a digital identification system for citizens.
