Delegation led by Deputy Speaker of Lithuanian Seimas Irena Šiaulienė visits Uzbekistan.
On February 26, members of the delegation met with the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan B. Alikhanov.
At the meeting, views were exchanged on innovations in legislation, reforms in the judicial-legal system, development and liberalization of the economy, and ensuring environmental sustainability. The past parliamentary elections and their results were emphasized.
At present, 33 agreements have been signed between Uzbekistan and Lithuania that serve the development of relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation, issues of strengthening cooperation in trade, investments, healthcare, innovations and education.
Attention was also paid to improving the activities of inter-parliamentary cooperation groups. In particular, an inter-parliamentary group for cooperation with Uzbekistan, established in 2013, is currently operating in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and a group for cooperation with the Parliament of Lithuania in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
Views were also exchanged on bringing trade-economic relations to a new stage, ensuring cooperation between the two countries in strengthening cultural, humanitarian and inter-parliamentary ties.
