On January 28, 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov attended the conference dedicated to Green Central Asia initiative, in Berlin.
The forum was attended by Foreign Ministers of Germany, the European Union, Central Asia, Afghanistan, climate experts, as well as representatives of scientific, public, business circles and media.
Opening the conference, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas noted that vulnerability of Central Asian countries to climate change is becoming a serious factor that makes it necessary to strengthen regional cooperation.
Head of Uzbekistan delegation spoke about existing and potential threats posed by global climate change for Central Asian countries, as well as measures taken in Uzbekistan for rational use of limited water resources, introduction of energy-saving and environmental technologies.
The importance of international cooperation in mitigating the negative consequences of the Aral Sea environmental disaster was noted, including within the framework of Uzbekistan's initiative to turn the Aral Sea region into a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.
A Joint statement was adopted following the event, which reflects main principles of interaction within the framework of Green Central Asia initiative.
