Uzbekistan, Tajikistan strengthen inter-parliamentary relations

On October 7, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov met with the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva.
At the meeting it was emphasized that cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is an important mechanism for deepening mutual friendship and good neighborliness, increasing the effectiveness of practical ties, and effective monitoring of implementation of bilateral agreements.
Shukurjon Zukhurov expressed his sincere opinions on raising inter-parliamentary relations to a new qualitative level both in the format of cooperation between the two countries and within the framework of inter-parliamentary structures.
The Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov also met with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov.
Shukurjon Zukhurov expressed sincere gratitude for the invitation and noted that further expansion and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is an important factor in development of bilateral relations, will be mutually beneficial for the two countries.
During the talks, the intention was expressed to exchange best practices in important areas, in particular the preparation and conduction of parliamentary elections. The importance of joint actions within the framework of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was emphasized.
Issues of further expansion of inter-parliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, their enrichment with new content were discussed at the meeting, which was held in a constructive and trusting spirit. Further development of trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, expansion of ties in other areas was considered.
At the meeting, the Uzbek side invited representatives of Tajikistan’s parliament to take an active part in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
Within the framework of the event, an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation was signed between the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
