Uzbekistan – United Kingdom: Trade and investment cooperation develops

On February 28, Tashkent hosted the 24th Session of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council.

The event, organized at the International Business Center, was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, business circles of Uzbekistan, a delegation of representatives from over 60 companies led by the Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne.
 
Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank also attended the session.
 
At the opening ceremony of the event, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev noted that in recent years, consistent reforms aimed at improving the investment and business environment, a free market economy have been carried out in the country.
 
At the event, the Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne noted the growing number of British investors willing to invest in the economy of Uzbekistan, this will create opportunities for further development of trade relations and cooperation in such areas as education, health, tourism and agriculture. The British side expressed readiness to support the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan.
 
The event continued at breakout sessions. Views were exchanged on new opportunities for investment cooperation, prospects for development of relations in health, education and tourism, financing projects in Uzbekistan.
 
At the session, bilateral documents were signed on creating Presidential schools in Uzbekistan that meet international standards of a higher education institution, as well as on building a complex for processing agricultural products, and London Clinic in Kashkadarya region.
 
G2G, G2B, and B2B meetings were also held with participation of representatives of the two countries’ business people.
