In connection with the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Asian Forum on Human Rights will be held in Samarkand on November 22-23.
The National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Press Club organized a briefing on this large-scale forum.
It was attended by Director of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov, United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva Michael Møller, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser, OHCHR Regional Representative for Central Asia Ryszard Komenda, Head of the Democratization Department of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Marcin Walecki.
At the briefing, it was noted that the Decree of the President “On the program of events dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” of May 5 of this year serves as an important guide to action for the preparation and organization of the forum.
This large-scale event will be attended by heads of international and regional organizations – the UN, OSCE, OIC, members of parliaments of foreign countries, activists of national institutions and non-state non-profit organizations for human rights, experts. The forum will be covered by domestic and foreign journalists.
At the forum, it is planned to improve the existing and introduce new mechanisms for protection of human rights, development of practical recommendations on ensuring mutual cooperation between national human rights institutions.
It is planned to adopt the Samarkand Declaration of Human Rights. This document will contribute to a more effective implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and objectives set out in the Sustainable Development Goals.
