It was attended by SCO members, observers, as well as delegations of the dialogue partner countries, representatives of international organizations and research centers.

 

Among the participants of the conference are the SCO Secretary-General R.Alimov, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism V.Voronkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan D.Akhatov, Head of the OSCE Action Against Terrorism Unit A.Avakov, Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross G.Carbonnier.

 

The regional antiterrorist structure is achieving effective results in strengthening security in the world and maintaining peace. It carries out large-scale work on combating terrorism, religious extremism, separatism, the illegal trade in weapons and drugs, transnational organized crime.

 

The structure in the course of its activities last year prevented a number of terrorist acts, put an end to activities of more than 50 terrorist groups, facilitated the detention of 150 terrorists who were on international wanted list. It also conducts successful activities on identifying and preventing the use of the Internet for subversive purposes. Last year, 80 thousand websites were prevented, which absorbed over 500 thousand materials with disruptive and destructive ideas, 360 websites of terrorist and banned religious organizations. A criminal case has been initiated against 122 persons operating on these Internet resources.

 

Today, the process of integration is under way in the activities of the anti-terrorist structure. India and Pakistan that have become SCO members began to take an active part in its work. This, in turn, further increases the chances of the SCO to achieve security and stability.

 

At the sectional meeting of the conference, devoted to issues of detecting and preventing new threats to security, views were exchanged on international cooperation, development of an effective mechanism for preventing modern challenges.

 

Preventing extremist, subversive and terrorist activities requires compliance with international legal norms. Regular sessions were devoted to these issues. The need for complying with law enforcement practice and legislation in the fight against terrorism and other threats, international humanism principles was noted.

 

On November 1, the conference will continue its work. At the event, participants will exchange experience on achieving peace and stability in the SCO space, fighting terrorism and extremism, eliminating their consequences.
