On October 11, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation led by the Grand Imam of Egypt, the head of Al-Azhar complex Sheikh Ahmed Mohammad el-Tayeb.
It was attended by responsible persons of the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, and the Center for Islamic Civilization.
The Grand Imam of Egypt noted that Uzbekistan raised many world-famous scholars, and expressed hope that students of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan will continue their work with dignity.
Views were exchanged on expanding cooperation between the two countries in religious-spiritual sphere, enhancing experience of teachers, exchanging personnel. Agreements were reached on holding roundtable discussions, workshops and conferences for scientific analysis of current issues of Islam. Sheikh Ahmed Mohammad el-Tayeb has been awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan.
A memorandum of cooperation between the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and Al-Azhar University was signed at the event.
In a conversation with the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan N.Yuldoshev, it was noted that the visit of the Grand Imam of Egypt to Uzbekistan, as a logical continuation of an active bilateral dialogue, will further strengthen friendship and mutual trust between the two countries.
Strengthening cooperation for ensuring religious tolerance, freedom of conscience, bringing to the international community the values of enlightened Islam and its humanistic ideas were discussed.
The sides expressed readiness to further strengthen Uzbekistan – Egypt friendship and cooperation.
