Senate hosts a meeting with the European Parliament delegation

On September 19, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament led by Member of the Group of the European People's Party Cristian Dan Preda.
Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investment and Tourism A.Kurmanov informed guests about large-scale reforms implemented in Uzbekistan within the framework of the Action Strategy.
Prospects of inter-parliamentary relations, expansion of legal framework of cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
It was noted that the European Union is interested in implementing new strategy of mutually beneficial cooperation with Central Asian countries. The dynamic development of relations between the European Union and Uzbekistan meets interests not only of the EU and Uzbekistan, but also of other Central Asian countries.
Issues of further strengthening the existing ties and expanding cooperation areas were discussed at the meeting at the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
Participants focused on environmental problems related to drying up of the Aral Sea, which are urgent for Central Asia. The guests recognized that Uzbekistan is taking practical measures to mitigate the consequences of the environmental disaster.
Members of the European Parliament noted that relations between Uzbekistan and the EU meet interests of both sides and expressed mutual interest in full use of opportunities.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
