The 37th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began its work in Geneva.

This year, the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is being celebrated. At the session taking place during the celebration of this significant date, current issues of human rights protection are being discussed. It involves over 3 thousand representatives from more than 180 countries. 

At the opening of the meeting, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein and the President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák, noted the importance of respect for human rights throughout the world and development of international cooperation in this field. 

The event is being attended by the Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan R.Davletov, director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Saidov, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to Geneva. 

R. Davletov familiarized the participants of the event with reforms carried out in Uzbekistan on implementation of fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens. In particular, he spoke about the unique experience of the People's Reception Offices of the President. 

Introduction of a qualitatively new system of combating crime, primarily aimed at its prevention and early warning was discussed. The first results of reforming the judicial and legal sphere and the system of criminal prosecution were presented, including establishment of the Supreme Judicial Council, creation of new economic and administrative courts, the first pardon of citizens, toughening requirements on preventing unlawfully obtained types of evidence in criminal proceedings, especially with the use of physical force and other coercive measures. 

At the session, Uzbekistan for the first time announced its intention to be elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the period of 2021-2023. 

The information presented by the delegation of Uzbekistan, including preparations for the Asian Forum on Human Rights in Samarkand, in November 2018, aroused great interest among the participants of the session.
