On November 9, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States, Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council Lisa Curtis, who arrived in our country as the head of a representative delegation for participation in the international conference on “Central Asia: one past and a common future, cooperation for sustainable development and mutual prosperity”.
The Head of our state, welcoming the guest, noted that at present Uzbekistan–US dialogue has acquired a constructive and stable character. The visit of Uzbekistan delegation to the United States in September and meetings with the President of the USA Donald Trump, representatives of American business, demonstrated the decisive spirit of the sides for practical expansion and deepening of bilateral relations, primarily in trade-economic and investment spheres.
As it was noted, the coincidence and similarity of approaches to the solution of a number of key international problems and counteracting contemporary challenges and threats make it possible to significantly strengthen cooperation in these current areas.
At the meeting, views and assessments were exchanged on development of the situation in Afghanistan and the region in the context of ensuring security and stability.
The sides confirmed their interest in that Central Asia remained the territory of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation. In this regard, as emphasized, the initiatives and specific steps of the leadership of Uzbekistan aimed at expanding good-neighborly relations and strengthening mutual trust between the countries of the region are of great importance.
Lisa Curtis noted that the leadership of the USA highly appreciates the role of Uzbekistan in ensuring regional security and stability, as well as confirmed the interest of the American side in giving new dynamics to long-term relations with our country.
