Center for Islamic Civilization: Harmony of Religion, Science and Modernity

2021-01-30 | Politics

The Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is an impressive project both in scope and in content.

On 29 January, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the construction of the center.

Earlier, the Head of the state visited the construction site several times, gave instructions on the high-quality implementation of work, enrichment of content, having studied the opinions of prominent Islamic scholars and historians. During today’s visit, information was provided on the work carried out in this direction.

The project of the building of the center, internal and external design, the content of museum expositions was discussed with leading scientists, Islamic scholars and art critics of the world. Based on this, a scientific and historical concept was developed, reflecting the enormous contribution of our ancestors to the Islamic civilization.

During the acquaintance, a presentation of this concept took place.

“I have visited here to see the results of what has already been done and prepare the basis for new research confirming that our sacred religion is a religion of goodness, humanity, calling for spiritual enrichment and enlightenment, and the invaluable contribution that our ancestors made to these processes. Today it is not difficult to build a magnificent building. We have built a building worthy of our ancestors. Now we need to create a scientific environment worthy of our ancestors”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was noted that the center will instill pride and admiration for the younger generation, encourage them to follow a new path of development.

“Many people ask why the President cites two Renaissances as an example. This is an idea, our goal for the future. After all, we must draw spiritual strength from history to reach the boundaries to which our country is striving! We hope that this center will become one of the foundations of the third Renaissance. Because it will be a scientific, secular, modern center”, the Head of the state said.

It was emphasized that when drawing up museum expositions, it is necessary to take into account the opinion of people, organize a competition for this purpose, reflect the best ideas and proposals.

“Our country has brought up many scholars, hadith collectors, theologians, their heritage is colossal. However, it must be admitted that we did not study this rich source in depth. That is why this center should scientifically substantiate and promote the idea of what a great people we are. Everything here should convey the national idea. People who come to the center, our youth, should receive a charge of spiritual strength and confidence”, the President said.

The importance of developing cooperation with UNESCO, ISESCO and other international organizations and scientific centers was noted.

“The rules and formulas used today in such fundamental areas as mathematics, physics, geometry, astronomy, medicine are based on the discoveries of our ancestors. The first scientific sources in the Middle Ages contained references to our ancestors. But later they disappeared”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In this regard, it was instructed to allocate additional funds and research grants to the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan for the study of primary sources of scientific works.

The task was set to prepare qualified guides-interpreters for the center, specializing in the spread of Islam and the development of science in the country.

Instructions were given on organizing a multimedia department at the center to bring the scientific heritage to the youth audience in a modern format, as well as a workshop-laboratory of ancient calligraphic art.
