Shavkat Mirziyoyev: If deputies will burn with soul, work in good conscience, then the ministers and the government will also have the same attitude
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis touched upon the pressing tasks facing the deputies.
“First of all, a deputy should live by the concerns of people and show dedication in solving problems concerning them, be an example in this. If deputies will burn with soul, work in good conscience, then the ministers, the government, and the parliament as a whole will also have the same attitude”, the President said.
It was noted that the lower house should turn into a real “school of democracy", a platform where objective debates and discussions are held on each draft law and different public interests clash.
Over the past five years, the chamber’s activity has intensified significantly, 540 draft laws have been considered, or twice as much compared to 2010-2014. Important acts such as the Code of Civil Procedure, the Code of Economic Procedure, the Code of Administrative Procedure, and the Electoral Code have been adopted. In the last two years, the adoption of direct laws has begun.
The practice of public discussion was established for each draft law introduced in the lower house. Thanks to this, about 1 thousand provisions of more than 400 draft laws were finalized on the basis of proposals from citizens. Based on the views expressed by the population, 16 draft laws were submitted to the initiators for revision; it is noteworthy that in 2010-2014 not a single draft law was returned.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the main attention of deputies should be paid to how these laws meet the interests of people.
“Indeed, people’s representatives, as befits their high deputy status, should be courageous, demanding and decisive, not allow the adoption of laws that will not serve the interests of people. Each law, figuratively speaking, should be like a living organism, have its own strength and result, and with its adoption, life should change for the better”, the President said.
