On February 27, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Indonesia Ulugbek Rozukulov presented his credentials, as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi, in Jakarta.
ASEAN is a regional intergovernmental organization uniting 10 countries of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines). In 2018, the population of organization's member states exceeded 651 million people, GDP – more than 3 trillion USD, and foreign trade turnover – more than 2.3 trillion USD.
During the conversation, ASEAN Secretary-General noted that he is following large-scale transformations implemented in Uzbekistan and aimed at comprehensive development of the country. In his opinion, reforms carried out by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev are already yielding its results, and it is evidenced by inclusion of Uzbekistan in various international ratings, growth of investment and foreign trade and, in general, increased interest in Uzbekistan from world community, including Southeast Asian countries.
According to Uzbekistan MFA, ASEAN Secretary-General emphasized that implementation of various international initiatives opens up prospects for expansion of transport, trade and investment relations of Uzbekistan with member states of the association.
