On February 26, 2019, Uzbekistan delegation led by the First Deputy Minister of Justice Makhmud Istamov held a meeting with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry, in Geneva.

According to the Permanent mission of Uzbekistan to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Uzbekistan delegation visits Switzerland to attend the regular session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Promising areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and WIPO were discussed at the meeting

Francis Gurry praised Uzbekistan's accession in February 2019 to two WIPO Treaties – on copyright, as well as on performances and phonograms.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on assistance of WIPO in improving the efficiency of the Agency of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan by optimizing its activities and widespread introduction of information technologies, training representatives of Uzbekistan in leading international education institutions in the field of intellectual property protection, as well as holding specialized workshops and trainings for improving human resources of Uzbekistan’s IP sphere, involvement of international experts for codification of the national legislation in the field of intellectual property.
