Uzbekistan delegation visits Washington

Delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Deputy Prime Minister Tanzila Narbayeva, who arrived in the United States to attend the annual meeting of Cotton Campaign global coalition, held meetings in Washington, DC with Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States Lisa Curtis, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells, as well as Senior Bureau Official for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Kozak.

At the meeting with Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States Lisa Curtis, issues of enhancing international cooperation in human rights, expanding the role of Uzbekistan in the regional process, including in stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan were considered.
 
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, representative of the White House praised the transformations carried out in the country, especially in promoting the human rights agenda at the state level.
 
According to senior United States officials, participation of the official delegation of Uzbekistan for the first time in Cotton Campaign meeting confirms the firm commitment of the country’s leadership to the full implementation of reforms aimed at protecting human rights and freedoms and demonstrates Tashkent’s willingness for open dialogue and constructive interaction on the most sensitive human rights issues.
 
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells also welcomed the intensification and expansion of interaction with international non-governmental organizations. 
 
During the negotiations with Senior Bureau Official for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Kozak, practical measures taken in the country on forced labor eradication, reforms in the agricultural sector, interaction with civil society institutions, simplifying procedures related to registration and operation of non-governmental organizations, ensuring media freedom, and others were discussed.
