2019-02-07 | Politics

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Sherzod Kudbiyev and Chairman of Uztuqimachiliksanoat Association Ilkhom Khaydarov met with the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller.

At the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as within the framework of the Decent Work Country Programme, implemented jointly with the International Labour Organization (ILO) were discussed. In this context, the head of the World Bank commended the results of the visit of the ILO Director-General Guy Ryder to Uzbekistan, which testified to the significant progress achieved in the country in protecting the rights of workers.

The WB head noted the possibility of further cooperation in three main areas. The first is continuation of tripartite format between Uzbekistan, the World Bank and the ILO. The second is promotion of employment and creation of favorable working conditions. The third direction is implementation of projects related to gender equality, infrastructure development, increasing energy efficiency, modernizing agriculture and ensuring food security, increasing the country’s trade and export potential.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the World Bank Vice President intends to visit Uzbekistan in March this year to discuss the most promising projects that the bank could participate in financing.
