2019-01-18 | Politics

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Austria, the Permanent Representative to the IAEA Sherzod Asadov met with the Minister without Portfolio responsible for the planning, construction and commissioning of the two new blocks at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant János Süli, in Budapest, during which issues of further development of Uzbekistan – Hungary cooperation in atomic energy were discussed.

At the meeting, it was noted that the Hungarian side is watching with interest the positive changes taking place in Uzbekistan and the ongoing dynamic reforms. The initiative of the country’s leadership in building in Uzbekistan the first nuclear power plant in Central Asia deserves particular recognition.

János Süli highlighted the high dynamics of Hungary – Uzbekistan cooperation in this area, including successful organization of a study tour of Uzatom Agency’s delegation in November 2018 for studying the operation of the Paks-1 NPP, following which close working contacts were established by the parties.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at present, a study tour of Uzbekistan delegation as part of environmental parliamentarians and mass media representatives to Budapest is being organized, during which meetings will be held in relevant agencies to study the Hungarian experience and legislation. The delegation will also visit the existing Paks Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the minister, Hungarian specialists have extensive experience in the nuclear field, primarily in using Russian technologies, which have been successfully used in this country for more than 40 years. He assured that the Hungarian side will provide comprehensive assistance to Uzbekistan in development of this important industry, including through training personnel of appropriate level for the planned NPP.
