Uzbekistan – Germany: inter-parliamentary cooperation develops

On October 31, the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation led by the Chairman of Germany – Central Asia parliamentary group of the German Bundestag Manfred Grund.

At the meeting with the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments and Tourism of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis A.Kurmanov, the sides discussed Uzbekistan – Germany cooperation, in particular issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
 
Chairman of Germany – Central Asia parliamentary group Manfred Grund informed about International Parliamentary Scholarship program, its goals and significance. This program provides for familiarizing prospective personnel of partner countries with activities of the German parliament and further strengthening mutual relations. About 120 scholarships are awarded annually for internship in the Bundestag. Representatives of more than 40 countries are scholars of this program.
 
Issues of participation of Germany in implementation of industrial-innovation programs on development of Uzbekistan, as well as the possibility of creating high-tech enterprises were discussed.
 
At the meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis S.Otamurodov, views were exchanged on inter-parliamentary cooperation, implementation of innovation programs in Uzbekistan, strengthening cooperation in higher education system, developing cooperation on introduction of advanced technologies in the economy.
 
Issues of ensuring security in the region, eliminating consequences of the Aral crisis, developing mutually beneficial relations of the Central Asian countries were also discussed.
