On July 26, 2018, the Minister for Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev held a meeting with the Counselor-Ambassador, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan Vadim Mitrofanov to discuss issues of preparations for the first Uzbekistan – Russia interregional forum to be held in October this year.
The parties expressed interest in development of direct cooperation between the regions of the two countries in business, transport and development of cooperation.
In 2017, within the framework of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation, an intergovernmental agreement was signed to promote interregional cooperation.
A number of interregional agreements were reached to increase trade turnover and strengthen cooperation. In particular, an intensive dialogue between the cities of Tashkent and Moscow is being held. A program of cooperation between the capitals of the two countries is being developed for 2018-2020, which envisages cooperation on such concepts as “safe city”, “smart city”, as well as an electronic platform for urban development.
As reported by the Press Service of the Ministry for Foreign Trade, following the meeting, the parties agreed on further actions to organize the forum and interregional visits.
