On July 17, 2018, the Ministry for Foreign Trade hosted a meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to discuss issues of further development and cooperation in trade and economic relations between the countries.
At the meeting, the observed positive dynamics in mutual trade was noted. As a result of last year, the trade turnover increased by 19% and amounted to 617.1 million dollars. As it was emphasized by Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade Sahib Saifnazarov, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have the opportunity to continue this dynamic on condition of creation of all necessary favorable conditions for development of trade and economic cooperation.
As reported by the Press Service of the Ministry for Foreign Trade, during the negotiations, the Uzbek side made a number of proposals, including involving Afghanistan investors on the principle of public-private partnership, as well as creation of a border trade zone.
In addition, the Afghan side proposed to begin development of the issue of establishing a free trade regime between the countries. The delegation of Afghanistan expressed hope for the assistance of Uzbekistan in restoration and development of textile industry, namely in exchange of experience in this field and in personnel training.
