The role of a book is invaluable in development of a happy, colorful and carefree world of dreams. How to increase the interest and love of children to a book? What is the role of a school and libraries in this? At the conference “Children reading books in the 21st century: problems and tasks”, held at the Republican Children’s Library, this theme was the subject of discussion. 

Specialists from the libraries of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent, information and resource centers of schools were invited to the conference dedicated to development of children’s reading culture. 

– If parents do not read books to children, it’s difficult for a child to arouse interest in reading, – says the head of information and resource center at the secondary school No.8 of Akkurgan district of Tashkent region Kumri Sharipova. – And therefore, events devoted to reading propaganda are conducted not for a “tick”, but with the involvement of parents, on the basis of sincere dialogues. 

At the conference, reports on the culture of reading, on strengthening attention for libraries, on the impact of counterfeit printed products on children’s health, on the fact that a happy childhood begins with a book were thoroughly discussed. Prospects for increasing the role of libraries in development of children’s reading were identified.
